COMPETITION RULES  

 

1. ABOUT COMPETITION
The competition will take place on June 8- September 4 2021, in several stages:

  • The entire Competition for "A" and "B" age groups will be held online in June 2021 based on recordings made and submitted specifically for the International Balys Dvarionas Competition.
  • In the age group, " C" the 1st and 2nd Rounds will be held online in June 2021 based on recordings made and submitted specifically for the International Balys Dvarionas Competition. The Final 3rd Round takes place live in Vilnius, at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic in September 2021.
  • Age group "C" finalists will be fully reimbursed for their travel and accommodation costs, excluding meals.

The competition is open to pianists and violinists from all countries.

The competition is subdivided into 3 age groups. The age limits remain as intended for the 2020 Competition.

  • "A" - participants born on or after June 19, 2008
  • "B" - participants born on or after June 19, 2004
  • "C" - participants born on or after June 19, 2000

 2. REGISTRATION      

  • Participants should register online through their artistDB accounts by May 15, 2021

  • Contestants previously registered for the 2020 International Balys Dvarionas Competition participation, and if needed, change their programs and performance order in their artistDB account.
  • During the registration, it is not necessary to submit video recordings

Requirements for entries:

  • Not later than 2021 MAY 15, the applicant must upload a valid YouTube video performance link(-s) for the first and second Rounds, with the recorded Competition program according to the requirements, as listed below:

          ○ In Round 1, the competitors must perform at least one Baroque or Classical work.

          ○ In Round 2 - at least one Balys Dvarionas composition.

          ○ The choice of music for the rest of the program is entirely at the discretion of the competitor within the time allowed for each age group.

  • Videos must be recorded specifically for this competitionThis sign shall be visible in the video. It can be printed on paper or shown on any device screen.
  • Editing of the video recordings is prohibited, i.e every piece must be recorded in one take. A single recording of the whole program would be desirable, however, given the difficulties associated with the pandemic, each work is allowed to be recorded and uploaded as a separate link.
  • A maximum of three Youtube links could be uploaded through The ArtistDB system for each competition tour.

3. PROGRAM

  • Each participant shall prepare a program in accordance with the Competition repertoire. The selected program should be stated in the application form.

  • All works must be performed from MEMORY. 

  • In Round 1 and Round 2 pianists must perform solo piano works only, violinists solo or with piano accompaniment.

  • Participants who have logged in to their artistDB account will be able to change their programs and performance order until 15 May 2021.

  • Participants will be required to perform their programs in the order of their own choice finally made in artistDB on 15 May 2021.

  • No piece may be performed more than once

  • The performances for each Round 1 and Round 2 must have the following durations:

          ○ Group "A" - from 10 to 20 minutes;
          ○ Group "B" - from 15 to 25 minutes;
          ○ Group "C" - from 20 to 30 minutes.

4. REMOTE AUDITIONS 

  • Selected contestants in I and II Rounds will participate remotely, providing Youtube links with recorded auditions performances, through their accounts on artistDB.
  • I and II Rounds auditions video recordings should be in separate Youtube links.
  • Programs of Round I and II can be recorded in one video or separate in different links, but do not exceed 3 links per round.
  • All Auditions and the Final Concert will be broadcasted publicly.

5. PARTICIPATION FEE

  • The Entrance Fee is

          ○ 60 EUR for the age group A, 
          ○ 80 EUR for the age group B,
          ○ 100 EUR for the age group C.

  • The fee is non-refundable. You will be able to pay by bank transfer or PayPal. You will be provided with more detailed information during the registration process. 

6. SELECTION OF PARTICIPANTS 

  • Participants will be notified of the eligibility of records by 2021 May 20
  • The participants who passed the selection in 2020 automatically enter the 1st round of the competition.
  • Lithuanian applicants can participate in the 11th International Balys Dvarionas competition in line with the application process of video pre-selection,, or subsequent to a successful live performance in the XX National Balys Dvarionas competition receiving a personal invitation from the Jury.
  • The possible number of participants in the 2nd Round is more than half in  A and B age groups and half of C age group participants.
  • The Final - no more than 3 finalists in age group C.
  • Participants, who do not pass to the next round, will be able to receive depersonalized comments from the Jury members about their performance by e-mail from the Competition Management.
  • Results of the I Round  will be announced at the end of each day's broadcast
  • Round II results and age group C finalists will be announced at the end of the broadcast on June 19
  • The decisions of the Jury are final and not subject to appeal.

7. PRIZES AND BENEFITS 

  • The main prize fund of the Competition is EUR 25,000.
  • Travel to Vilnius and accommodation will be organized and paid for by the Competition for all Finalists.
  • The Competition will provide participants with rehearsal facilities in the Final round.

IMPORTANT: The competition organizers do not take responsibility for travel restrictions and other mandatory decisions made by Lithuanian or/and other countries authorities due to the COVID-19 pandemicThe organizers will do everything to mediate between competitors and Lithuanian authorities and make sure to arrange visas and permissions necessary to enter The Republic of Lithuania. Nevertheless, the final decision about arrival to the conditions (quarantine or isolation) will be made individually for each competitor depending on the COVID-19 situation in the outbound country.

8. OBLIGATION OF PARTICIPANTS  

  • It is forbidden to have contact with the Jury during all stages of the competition (unless the participant is a student of a Jury member).
  • Chosen competition laureates, diploma holders and winners of the special prizes are obliged to take part in the Competition Final concerts of the competition without remuneration.
  • The competition's all rounds and final concerts of the winners can be streamed online on radio and television, recorded on audio, video, or compact CD without any additional payment for the participants of the competition. The competition will be available online.
  • The Management of the Competition reserves a right to permit all the Competition performances and final concerts to be broadcasted by radio and television and to be produced as audio, video, film, CD, tape cassette and vinyl recordings without remuneration to the competitors.
